Increasingly if I want to find out what’s wrong with someone I use lab tests.  These can be via blood, stool, saliva or urine – all of which except blood can be carried out at home and sent directly to the lab.

The most common tests www.whatseatingyou.co.uk use are:

  •  stool tests to determine the levels of good and bad bacteria, yeasts and parasites.  It can also tell me if there is sufficient stomach acid, high levels of circulating toxins, fecal fat and inflammation
  • Cortisol tests which measure our stress hormone and can tell me if someone is wired, wired and tired, or exhausted and therefore how to treat them
  • Hormone profiles both for men and women which tell me about good and bad oestrogens (assessing cancer risk) testosterone levels (prostate risk) and menopause
  • Thyroid profiles which give far more information than the standard TSH test at the GP which often misses other thyroid problems
  • Bone Resorption test – which shows how fast you are turning over bone cells – a guide to oesteoporosis
  • Food allergies and intolerances (although the latter is usually better with an elimination diet)
  • Homocysteine test – assessing your risk for heart disease
  • As well as Nutrient status assessing levels of major nutrients and fatty acids

With this info I can use a combination of food, supplements and lifestyle changes to bring a return to good health
