- Supplement 1g of vitamin C, twice a day – eat more berries, pomegranates, kiwi, oranges, greens and peppers
- Take 15mg of zinc each day (found in seafood and pumpkin seeds). You can take this 3 times a day if you have a cold or flu.
- Take vitamin D3 4000 iu per day. Our main source is sunshine so this is important during the winter months
- Take therapeutic probiotics in capsule form to increase the immunity in the gut
- Take Elderberry extract, propolis and Echinacea (from health food shops)
- Up your Antioxidants with dark coloured veg such as dark greens, red cabbage, tomatoes, kale, beetroot and spices such as tumeric
- Reduce dairy, wheat, and sugar which can clog up the digestive system
- Increase your sleep – we repair and heal whilst sleeping.
- Reduce alcohol which robs vitamins such as vitamin C
- Relax, reduce stress – don’t underestimate the negative effects of stress
- Take a teaspoon of Manuka honey at least 15+ especially if you have a sore throat, mixed with teaspoon of cinnamon and tumeric
- Use steam inhalations with Eucalyptus oil
- Take a daily Multivitamin and mineral
- Open your window at night and get some fresh air, and walk in nature at the weekends
- Increase hydration – Lots water or hot water with lemon and ginger
- Lots of garlic (undercooked rather than overcooked)
- Eat a variety of mushrooms e.g. shitake
- If you are prone to cold sores supplement 1000mg of lysine as a prevention during stressful times, and 3000mg when you it is active. Lysine an amino acid that halts growth, whereas arginine is an amino acid that feeds it. This is found in lentils, nuts and chocolate.
