Walking barefoot balances our nervous system

Our health is entwined with our nervous system which is shaped by our beliefs, our connections, how we value ourselves, and our time.  If these are out of balance, they will greatly influence on our well-being.

How would you feel if your health deteriorated, and looking back you know you could have done something different?  This will be the case, if you don’t take action now.  But it doesn’t need to take a lot of time or energy, you can work on small steps, one per month if needed. The important thing is that you do change!

I see in my clinic the hugely detrimental effect of stress on health.  But equally the incredible power when one makes some space, allowing the nervous system to calm.

When our nervous system is ramped up, it affects our digestive system, our hormonal system (including blood sugar), our cardiovascular system and our immune system.  When these are under pressure, the weak link in our chain can break and will show as physical or mental symptoms and ill health.

Here are some easy but powerful ways to change our nervous system:

1.       Playing music – music can be very relaxing. Sad music can be a vehicle to expressing boxed off emotions which is a great release.  When your nervous system feels overwhelmed try listening to a sound bath on line, which can have a wonderful effect at cellular level.  Even better attend a sound bath in person

2.       Walking in nature.  Hearing birds, smelling forests, watching water or seeing patterns in flowers (fractals)  is a real sedative for stress.  Walking barefoot on grass or earth directly decreases anxiety and stress. That’s because the Earth carries a negative charge, whereas we have a positive charge due to all the electromagnetic waves we come in contact with daily.

3.       Sit outside in the sun (any time of year as long as you are wrapped up).  Leave your phone indoors and just allow the sun to soothe you.  The sun’s energy is a vital force for all living things.

4.       Stroke a pet. Our pets really pick up on our stress and an activated nervous system.  If you notice your pet is acting up, it may be an indication of your energy in the house.  Take a few moments to stroke your pet which will have a positive effect for both of you.

5.     Be in water, whether it’s swimming, shower or bath, being in water can activate your parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for relaxation. As your nervous system adjusts to the warming effect of the water around you, you begin to experience lowered levels of stress.

6.       Spend less time with those who drain you, and more time with those who energise you.  Notice how you feel after spending time with certain people

7.       Become aware of your intuition and inner knowing.  As you tap into this more, and obtain a greater sense of awareness, you will be able to make choices that work better for you and keep you in balance.

You deserve good health – let’s do this together
